TWO ANCHORAGE SCHOOLS RECEIVE TOP AIR QUALITY AWARD
Polaris K-12 and Steller Alternative Schools have received the Green Star Air Quality Award. The awards will officially be given Monday, June 18, 2001, at the Chamber of Commerce “Make it Monday” Forum. School District Assistant Superintendant, George Vakalis, will present the awards. Students from both schools attended the Green Star training for members of Alaska Youth for Environmental Action in the November. Steller and Polaris students Corey Rennell and Sarah Gottstein, members of AYEA, helped organize a Green Star team to meet the required standards for the Air Quality Award at their schools. Cooperative efforts from each school resulted in a city wide anti-idling campaign.
