Delta Airlines Receives Green Star Award
Green Star, Inc. announces that Delta Airlines Anchorage station has earned its Green Star Award for adopting environmental standards. Green Star Executive Director Sean Skaling presented the award at an Anchorage Chamber of Commerce luncheon on June 26, 2000. Members of Deltas "Waste Watchers" committee were in attendance to receive the award on behalf of the airline.
To earn the award, Delta implemented a comprehensive plan to integrate recycling and waste reduction into all aspects of its Anchorage operation. Delta reduces paper waste by separating newspapers, magazines, office paper and cardboard, and recycling over 5000 pounds of paper products each month. The company also recycles aluminum cans and carefully controls unnecessary waste from flights and offices.
Green Star, Inc. is a nonprofit organization founded in Anchorage that encourages organizations to incorporate techniques of waste reduction, energy conservation and pollution prevention in their places of business.
