Take advantage of the summer weather and join Green Star on a tour of Anchorages Glass Recycling facility, owned and operated by Polar Supply, Inc., and the Compost Facility, owned and operated by Commercial Recycling Inc. The tour will be on Wednesday, August 20th, 11:45am 1pm. Please meet at the glass recycling and composting facility at 11:45.
If you had an opportunity to read the Anchorage Daily News article on July 18, 2003, entitled Firm Grits it Out, you know glass is one of the few recyclables that is made into a useable product right here in Anchorage rather than being shipped out. Join us to see how glass is cleaned and processed into a saleable product. Find out how businesses and individuals alike can help keep glass recycling going in Anchorage. In addition, we will tour the Compost Facility, learning what materials go into local compost, the process involved, and what compost products can be purchased.
Directions: Drive west on Northern Lights Blvd. Go past Earthquake Park, the airport, and the sewage treatment plant. Drive several more miles after the pavement ends. At the end of the road, turn right into the glass plant/compost facility. Parking is to your left, before the trailer.
