The Alaska State Fair, Green Star, and Valley Community for Recycling Solutions (VCRS) are teaming up to recycle at the 2002 Alaska State Fair. More than 300,000 people attend the Fair each year and each contributes to the tremendous waste stream generated. A large portion of that waste can be recycled.
To make recycling a success, the recycling team needs the help of Alaskan businesses and organizations to Adopt-A-Day at the Fair. Each day of the Fair, which is twelve days long, from Thursday, August 22nd through Monday, September 2nd, needs about 40 to 50 volunteers to help recycle. To adopt a day, a business or organization picks a day and provides the volunteers to work for the day. Each volunteer works a 4-hour shift. Duties include collecting and sorting recyclables from recycling bins throughout the Fairgrounds. All supplies and refreshments will be provided.
In return, the volunteers get free parking and entry to the Fair on that day. The adopting organization gets free publicity as a recycling sponsor. Everyone enjoys working with fun people in a fast-paced atmosphere while doing a good thing for the community.
