Green Events is a Green Star program designed to assist special events in reducing waste and recycling. The program’s most visible aspect is the recycling program but it also encourages waste prevention activities, which help to enhance the efficiency of the recycling program, as well as reduce the overall waste stream.
Do you have a special event coming up? Do you wish you could recycle at the event but you just don’t know where to start? Let Green Star help you make your event a certified Green Event. Green Star will provide all the necessary bins, signs, and materials needed to make your event a Green Event.
As a certified Green Event, you will demonstrate to the community that you care about the environment and our great city. At events, you often end up throwing away a lot more than you would like and wasting time and money.
Green Events makes recycling of a wide range of materials possible, including aluminum cans, glass bottles, cardboard, and paper. We’ve even arranged with the Anchorage Recycling Center to recycle plastic water and soda bottles.
Best of all, Green Events is free. Green Star loans bins to you for the length of your event. Each bin is marked with attractive recycling labels that let others know you have made that extra effort to recycle at your event.
We even have a list of potential volunteers to help you with your recycling program. Volunteers can place bins, monitor recycling activities, educate the public about recycling, move materials to storage areas, and transport materials to the recycling center. We also provide information about companies that can transport recyclables if your staff or volunteers are not able.
