Electronics Recycling in Alaskan Communities 2008

Green Star will NOT be hosting its annual Electronics Recycling Event at the end of April. Instead, Green Star and Total Reclaim, Inc., will be teaming up to provide several different recycling opportunities throughout the year.

Mat-Su Valley

When: The last Saturday of each month (with the exception of December & February), in conjunction with the borough's scheduled collection of household hazardous waste. 9:30 AM TO 4:00 PM

Where: Central Landfill, 49th State Street Road & Palmer-Wasilla Highway

Who:Households, Businesses, and Non-profits

What: Same materials as listed for Anchorage event (above)

Fees: For households, dropping off one complete system (CRT, printer and CPU) is free. In excess of that, electronics are 50¢/lb.

For businesses, the cost to recycle electronics at the Central Landfill is $180 per pallet if the load is palletized. If electronics are not palletized, the charge is 50¢/lb. Businesses should contact the Environmental Technician at 746-2826 to make an appointment prior to bringing in electronics. Call the Central Landfill at 907-745-9838 if you have questions.

Nonprofits will pay business fees but can be reimbursed through the Rasmuson Foundation's program.

Fairbanks

When: Saturday, April 26, 2008, 10am - 4pm Earth 2008 Electronics Recycling Event

Tuesday, April 29, 2008, Corporate Collection Day, by appointment only. Call 907-452-4152 or 978-9889 to make an appointment for businesses to drop off.

Where: Carlson Center Parking Lot

Who: Households, Businesses and Non-profit organizations

What: Computers and computer-related equipment (CPUs, laptops, monitors of all kinds); office equipment (printers, fax machines, table-top copiers, scanners, electric typewriters); telephones, VCRs, DVD players, TVs, microwaves; also media (CDs, DVDs, floppies)

Fees: There is a small fee to cover cost of the items, ranging from none to $25, depending on the size of the item and type of electronic device; detailed listing at www.iagreenstar.org/e-recycling.php.

Nonprofits will pay either per-item or large load fee, depending on how it's brought, but can be reimbursed through the Rasmuson Foundation's program.

Homer

When: Saturday, April 26, 10am to 3pm Event Flyer

Where: Spenard Builders Supply, on Lake Street

Who: Households all day; businesses and non-profits by apppintment only. Call 235-6262 for an appointment.

What: televisions, computer monitors, computers/laptops, keyboards, mice, modems, external drives, small scanners, printer, copy machines, cables, other computer peripherals, VCRs, DVD players, stereos, radios, phones, fax machines, camcorders, electric typewriters, microwave ovens, and most media (floppies, CDs, DVDs), telephones, cell phones, and similar products

Not accepted: audio and video tapes, smoke detectors, vacuums

Fees: Households -- $15 per carload including 1 monitor, TVs over 18 inches are $25 each and TVs under 18 inches are $15 each

Businesses and non-profits are 35¢ per pound. Qualifying non-profits can send in a form with non-profit status and get reimbursed for 25¢ per pound.
