Earning a Green Star Award
To earn either award, follow these steps:

There are TWO Green Star Awards! |

(The Original Green Star Award)
For waste reduction and pollution prevention efforts. |

(The Green Star Air Quality Award)
For reducing air emissions and improving air quality and earn. |
1. Fill out an enrollment form.
- Enroll in the Green Star program and pay enrollment fees. Fees are based on the size of the organization (based on number of employees).
- Enroll online, or print the online enrollment form and send by regular mail.

2. Have a site assessment conducted.
- All enrollees can participate in a free site assessment.
- Members of the Green Star staff will visit your facility. This is your chance to show off what you've done to earn your Green Star!

3. Accomplish the Green Star Standards.
You must complete twelve of eighteen standards to receive either award. For assistance in implementing the standards, review Becoming a Green Star: A Waste Reduction Guide for Anchorage Businesses.
- Standards 1 through 6, the Core Standards, are mandatory, and are identical for both awards.
- Core Standards 1 - 6
- Then, for the Original Green Star Award, complete six standards from the list of Green Star Standards 7 - 18.

- For the Air Quality Award, complete six standards from the list of Air Quality Standards 7 - 18.

4. Submit a standards achievement report.
- In a brief report, describe the actions you have taken to fulfill each of the standards. Include a description of your business or organization, your future goals, and your waste assessment data (from Standard 6), along any photographs, tables, etc. that help illustrate your accomplishments. We encourage you to save paper and submit your application electronically!

- We encourage you to save paper and submit your report electronically to info@greenstarinc.org.
- Please submit your narrative in MSWord, Adobe PDF, or as text within your e-mail message. If using Adobe PDF, please also submit a text-only document in MS Word. Your waste assessment may be submitted as an MS Exel spreadsheet.
- Mail your hard copy report to Green Star, 880 H Street, Suite 106, Anchorage, AK 99501.
5. Incorporate comments from peer reviewers.
- Your standards achievement report will be reviewed by the Green Star Standards Committee, whose members are representatives from Green Star Award-winning businesses and organizations. The Committee will approve your application or make suggestions for modifications improvements, if needed.
- Respond to the comments as necessary and resubmit your report.
- If you have not had a site assessment, we will arrange to visit your workplace for a short visit to see your achievements firsthand.
