HDR, Inc. received its Green Star Award on April 10, 2006. HDR Alaska Inc. is an engineering and planning firm that offers environmental services. By earning the Green Star award the organnization is demonstrating their commitment to true environmental excellence.

As part of its efforts, HDR decreased energy use by using efficient T-8 lamps and installing reflectors to better disperse light. The company is saving more than $2,000 per year in energy costs just through the lighting retrofit.

HDR also looks for ENERGY STAR rated equipment, such as a duplex color printer that also reduces paper use and are looking for an ENERGY STAR rated dishwasher so employees do not have to use disposable dishes. HDR Inc., also serves the community by organizing a tennis shoe and sports equipment recycling drive.

Earning a Green Star Award means continual environmental improvement, and HDR is already working on an incentive program for carpooling, biking, skiing, or walking to work, and creating work groups to help employees decrease their environmental impact at home, as well as in the office.
