Steve Cleary, Executive Director of AkPIRG, and Barbara Williams, Executive Director of the Alaska Injured Workers' Alliance (AIWA), which shares an office with AkPIRG, accepting their Green Star Award from Green Star's Executive Director Sean Skaling.

A Green Star Award was presented to the Alaska Public Interest Research Group (AkPIRG) on November 1, 2004. AKPIRG includes Green Star practices in employees’ performance reviews. Free bus passes are also provided to employees wanting to reduce pollution and traffic congestion by taking the bus to work. In addition, AkPIRG uses and promotes the Alaska Materials Exchange, a free web-based exchange for businesses to share useful but unwanted goods rather than throw them out. AkPIRG is interested in championing wind-powered energy projects in Alaska. Joining with other interested groups, AkPIRG hopes to promote more sustainable energy choices for consumers in the future.
