What is L.E.E.P.?

Green Star's Lighting Energy Efficiency Pledge (L.E.E.P.) encourages businesses to take the L.E.E.P. to energy savings. L.E.E.P. is an 18-month program (October 2007 through March 2009) designed to encourage businesses and organizations to reduce their energy use through lighting upgrades and retrofits.

Businesses sign a pledge to make specific changes including switching from T-12 fluorescent lamps to T-8 lamps, switching from incandescent bulbs to compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs), and/or changing out incandescent bulb exit signs for LED exit signs.

Based on the number of lights that the organization pledges to change, calculations of the energy and cost savings, as well as carbon emissions reduction figures, are provided to the organization. Technical assistance is provided to ensure that the retrofit can be completed. Both building/business owners and renters are encouraged to participate.

Renter vs. Owner -- Both Can Pledge!

Are you renting your office space? Do you feel like you can't make the changes you would like to increase the energy efficiency of the space? You can do something! Through this pledge you can demonstrate to your building owner or manager that you want to see a change and you can show him/her what a change would mean to his/her bottom line.

As a building owner, you have the opportunity to make changes, save money, and gain recognition for making an effort to reduce energy use and carbon emissions. Take the pledge to motivate yourself and your staff or tenants.
